Happy Birthdays & Internet

There is a marked increase in the wishes coming my way in the last 2-3 years on 15th of Mays. Not that I am getting more popular as years pass by, but I am more approachable and accessible like never before. All thanks to Internet!

As I grow older, my old childhood friends like Tillu, Bablu and Bantu no longer call me on my birthdays. Not that the friendship is any less due to passing of years, but because they are not internet people and therefore there is no 'aided recall' through birthday alarm messages of sites like Orkut & Facebook.

Today, I have got almost 20 entries in my scrapbook on Orkut! all birthday wishes.. some from people i have not connected say in last 6 months..A cousin from London, Pallavi is also in conversation..She wants me to come there to take my party! How i wish the same could also have been got on orkut!

Then there are sites like Clickjobs,Netlog, Mutual Funds like DSP Merrill Lynch, Desi Martini, ICICI Direct and even I-mint all wishing me happy birthday! Coming to think of it, even though one knows all of this is automated but somehow no one minds getting good wishes!

What could be the possible next extension of this? Any Ideas?

Happy Birthday....how right..a good peice..internet community can preen and feel good.last year it stumped me with its deluge of love pouring through pc.But alas, this year internet alarms were apparently off..as I got one and only one wish online...All my internet buddies were hit by amnesia or drop of love meter. Therefore youngman,pl. do give credit to internet, but give some to your popularity quotient..cheers..

Nice post. Actually it is more to do with the 'place' people know you are available at. I would suppose that young people like Mayank would get equal number of wishes through SMS cos his friends know that he is more likely to recieve and respond the SMS better as compared to Orkut, where he would login may be end of day....

Popularity Quotient is surely the biggest factor of them all though....we all know the most remembered one in the world is 'GOD'...

Extentions :-)
1. customize and schedule an auto greeting card...
2. Shopping portals tie up with SN sites to gift a bouquet, or a gift purchase promt to the 'Friends'
3. Your machine sings HBD2U every time you recieve a mail or a scrap with subject line Happy BirthDay.

Nice posting..ya its true in my case also & of course nobody minds taking good wishes in either way they come...I think the extension of this would be flowers, gifts, chocolates coming your way with the good wishes... :)
